We ordered our wedding rings today =)
When we first went into the jewelry store, we weren’t planning on picking anything out, just window shopping. It was a day off for both of us and I wanted to get out of the house. We sat down with the sales woman, Jasmine, and looked at the men’s bands first. We had looked at other stores before to get an idea, and we were both very drawn to the black tungsten carbide. He tried this one on and I really liked the way it looked on his finger. It’s sleek, simple, but so dramatic at the same time. After talking for a bit we decided to go ahead and special order his ring. The wedding isn’t for quite a while, nine months I think, but it can take up to a month for the ring to come in and we can set it aside until the date.
After we finished with his, we asked what we could do about a band for my engagement ring. My ring is gorgeous but it’s a bypass setting which makes it very difficult for a band to fit it. We tried a regular band, a contour band, a wrap guard, nothing fit without it looking uneven on one side. Nik had said before he knew he would have to buy me a new ring, he just wasn’t planning on it for a while. Not thinking we would get one today, we just looked around at what they had. Unfortunately, nothing tanzanite like my engagement ring, but Jasmine took us over to the amethyst section because I told her my favorite color was purple. There was one ring that was pretty, cushion cut with little diamonds bordering the amethyst and part of the band. Nik really liked it but I thought the gem was a tad too big for my small hands. We saw a white topaz ring that was cushion cut and very similar to the first ring but much smaller, almost vintage looking. It was very pretty and I liked it, but it was sterling silver. I’m allergic to either titanium or sterling silver, I can’t remember which one, so I always stick to white gold. After trying on a few more rings that were really pretty, I kept going back to the big amethyst cushion cut. As Nik and I were discussing on what to do, we walked by another amethyst section that had the top glass counter top covered by a magazine. There we saw this other cushion cut amethyst ring but much smaller. I had to try it on. The picture does it no justice. I had seen it online and thought it was hideous, but in person it’s beautiful. I didn’t even realize it was yellow gold until I tilted it to the side. It sparkled like crazy even just under fluorescent lights. The smokey quartz look brown in the picture but in person they look almost black. It didn’t look too big on my finger, a great size, and even better…on sale! Nik looked at me and looked over at Jasmine and told her to order it in my size. =)
I’m so excited we ordered our rings today, bummer we won’t be able to wear them until August but oh well!
